Tribal Wars is a near decade old browser based MMORTS game that’s great fun to play. A game can’t really survive this long unless it offers something really good to the players and this game certainly does. It consists of well executed, high quality RTS gameplay coupled with a really engaging medieval theme which makes for an enjoyable experience overall.
To help you get started in Tribal Wars, the first few minutes of the game will consist of a tutorial sequence that offers a lot of helpful information to newcomers.
This tutorial sequence, like most in the RTS genre, is pretty in-depth since there’s a lot to learn in these games but thankfully it’s worth all the time and effort put in since you will be rewarded generously for each task you complete in the tutorial. One of the best features for new comers is the shield they’re given for the first few days of gameplay. This shield makes sure that they can setup their village properly and aren’t raided when at their weakest.
In terms of gameplay, each player in Tribal Wars has one key objective which is to begin with a really basic village and eventually spread their control across the world and hundreds of different villages under their rule. This is obviously no simple or easy task and will of course requires long hours of hard work and dedication to achieve but there is tons of fun to be had along the way which is the main reason this game has thrived for so long. As for villages, you can upgrade one to a certain extent but they eventually cap out so you can expand your reach and get more under your control, these can also be upgraded and so forth until you have multiple of them under your leadership.
One of the key highlight features of the game has to be the raiding part. You can form massive armies and send them to enemy villages to raze them down and plunder their loot. All attacks are highly strategic and you can’t just brute force tons of troops into a village and expect them to succeed which is why doing some research and planning beforehand is advised.
As for graphics, it’s rather incredible how well Tribal Wars has aged over the years. A major portion of the game is basically image/text based but the high quality artwork and elegant user interface make it a delight to look at. The medieval theme has also been executed nicely which makes the experience a lot more immersive.
Although it’s free to play, Tribal Wars offers a VIP membership that anyone can purchase for real world money. This membership offers a lot of bonuses to the holder and is usually worth it for the hardcore players.
Tribal Wars is an engaging strategy game that has impressed many players over the years and will probably continue to do so thanks to its top notch gameplay and overall execution.
