Secure victory in ranked matches and climb up the rank ladder in Heroes Evolved!
Developed and published by R2 Games, Heroes Evolved is another innovative take on the DotA2/ LoL-styled MOBA game. Most of the traditional gameplay of a MOBA is retained with the exception of a unique boost, which is dropped randomly from creeps that you kill. If you love the old, top-down MOBA games but are looking for something slightly different and less competitive, Heroes Evolved is the perfect alternative for you. Do read on to find out more!
Currently in Open Beta, Heroes Evolved has already a ton – and I do mean a ton – of heroes that you can choose from. At the moment, there are 59 heroes in the game with around 11 heroes available for free on a “weekly rotation basis” and this is not including the heroes that are also offered for free for a limited period of time due to some special in-game event. Of course, each hero has their own set of skins which you can then buy using real cash.
Heroes in this game have their own set of 4 skills each, one of which is a unique Ultimate ability that’s usually very powerful especially when used at the most opportune moments during a match. Each hero is also categorized into the various groups based on the roles they can play. This makes picking a hero to play a lot easier provided that you understand the terminologies that are commonly used in MOBAs such as “carry” and “ganker”. Heroes can even be augmented with glyphs as you level up in the game.
Since the game’s mechanics are very similar to popular MOBA games like DotA 2 and LoL, the game offers an “opt out” option in the game’s tutorial for players who are already pretty proficient in the field of MOBA. However, generally, each team of 5 in a match will need to do their very best to destroy their opponents’ Aegis that is situation in the very center of the other team’s base, while trying not to die as much. Besides the Aegis and some buildings, like the Barracks, in the base, the fog-covered maps in the game also consist of 3 lanes, each of them lined with towers, and swathes of “jungles” in between.
In every match, you’ll need to do your best to get that last hit on a creep or a hero kill, so that you can earn coins. Coins can then be spent at the in-match shop so you can get some nice items for your hero. There are no couriers in the game, so you actually need to be near to the shop to purchase anything. This is actually one of the multiple instances the teleport ability can come in handy.
Interestingly, Heroes Evolved is unique as sometimes, the creeps you kill will drop a booster which can be picked up by any hero nearby... and yes, this also means your opponent. The boost varies from color to color, which the red boost providing a damage increase while the blue boost accelerates your health regeneration by a fair bit. These boosts can be quite the lifesaver if you’re lucky enough that they dropped and are picked up by your hero.
If you’re looking to get an edge over your opponents, there are quite a selection of in-game items that you can buy, such as Resurrection Stones, which allows you to resurrect your hero immediately after death, or even a VIP status which will grant you privileges such as getting your very own VIP name color, access to VIP avatars and more.
To round up, Heroes Evolved is a pretty traditional MOBA game in the sense that it sticks to the “template” of features that define a MOBA game, but it also innovates the genre by adding in randomly-dropped boosts which threaded some extra element of luck and surprise into its gameplay. If this is something you think you’d like, be sure to give Heroes Evolved a test-run. Who knows? You may end up loving it!
