Dive into a futuristic world in this space sim/ MMORTS game, Galaxy Control
Gather resources, develop your base and strengthen your defenses
Take on space pirates and other players and to claim a sector of space as your own
Real-time strategy, or RTS games have become relatively common. Just ask how many people have installed Clash of Clans or Game of War, which was promoted by a Kate Upton advertisement. They may have fallen out of fashion on consoles and PCs, but mobile phones have made them a much-loved mainstay for casual gamers.
There is another RTS game which can give both of the above mentioned ones a run for their money, which is Galaxy Control. If you loved Starcraft then this game is something you would want to play on your browser.
The moment you start the game, you will immediately dive into the fireworks: your assistant, Kate, will tell you that space pirates are incoming and you will need to build a cannon to fend them off. Don’t worry though, this is just the tutorial stage and your small new base won’t end up being razed and looted by the baddies.
The battle animations are fun to watch - it will certainly give any Starcraft fan a bit of nostalgia. After you close encounter with them, Kate will ask you to build a factory for the purpose of training Space Marines (sound familiar, right?). Here comes the fun part: you will then be in command of these Marines in destroying a nearby pirate base.
To do battle, simply summon your units by clicking on the open areas. Though it would be best if you summon them all at the same time. Overwhelming the pirate’s defenses is the only strategy at this point in the game.
After you’ve returned from your space battle, you will then be tasked to build a construction drone so you can build multiple buildings at the same time. Here, you will learn the basics of constructing buildings and upgrading them. Basically, creating buildings only require you to select one from the construction menu.
There are over 25 unique achievements and goals, and the campaign takes on over 30 missions, enough to keep you entertained for hours. Some of the quests include constructing certain buildings, fighting multiplayer battles, and performing the campaign quests. Accomplishing them gives you a certain amount of red gems, the premium currency in the game.
Apart from constructing buildings and fighting pirates, you will need to gather resources to further strengthen your base’s defences, along with your army’s offensive power. Enhance your defences by building walls, laser towers, and cannons, while wage war against other colonies with space marines, mechs, and even battleships. You can even decorate your base with statues and other aesthetically-pleasing buildings.
The best way to describe Galaxy Control is it being a cross between Starcraft and Clash of Clans. It generally feels like playing the former, while the mechanics are quite similar to the latter. If you’re looking for a new RTS game and you’re looking for space games, this one is for you.
