Browser MMORPGs in the mold of old favorites like Diablo and Runescape are rarities, but Fragoria seeks to change this. In a nutshell, Fragoria dives you deep into another fantasy world, this time filled to the brim with Slavic fairy tales and other legends. Unlike more modern RPGs, Fragoria looks like a mid-2000s RPG, yet this is where its appeal lies.
To register, you can use your Facebook or Google+ account. If you prefer the age-old option which is to register using your email, you can do so too.
Before you immerse yourself into the world of Fragoria, you will first choose between three characters: a hulking man clad in armor, a lady warrior, and a male soldier. From there, you will immediately be thrown into the fire pit - a skeleton will charge straight at you. Your unnamed hero will clasp his weapon and equip his spells, ready to fight against the boney undead.
If you didn’t like your first choice however, you can easily create a new character the next time you log in. Additionally, you will be able to choose more classes as you level up.
The battle system is reminiscent of the point-and-click mechanics popularized by old RPGs - Runescape, Ragnarok Online, and Diablo are outstanding examples. At first, your character will have access to simple spells. In my case, I had Spark (a destructive spell), Flame Sword, and Holy Sword.
Combat in this game is simple enough, and the game makes it easier for you to start and do battle against AI monsters. Using your spells against your opponents is easy enough: you just have to engage the monsters in battle and click on them or press the shortcut buttons. Of course, as you level up, you will be getting better skills and wielding more powerful spells.
Like any other RPG, you will be doing quests from NPCs, and these range from Search quests, wherein NPCs will ask you to look for other NPCs; Extermination quests, wherein you will be tasked to kill an X number of monsters; or Fetch quests, where you will be asked to find and gather certain items. There are more than 800 quests in the game, and you will unlock more as you progress. By accomplishing them, you will be receiving rewards.
At first, traversing around the game’s immersive world will is rather slow. Thankfully, you will have a mount as soon as you arrive at the first village. This will allow you to traverse quickly around the world. Moreover, you can automatically make your character move to certain spots on the map - all you have to do is click on an icon next to the minimap.
Fragoria wouldn’t be as good as it is without other characters fighting alongside - or against - you. You can make friends, join guilds, and even battle against others in Arenas, which are designated PvP zones in the game. Guilds may even clash and do battle on special areas, as well as fight with each other defeat bosses. There is also a pet system within the game.
So, we’ve arrived to the million-dollar question – is Fragoria for you? First off, let me say this: although Fragoria is a pretty decent game, it unfortunately isn't for everybody. Unfortunately, point-and-click games are quite outdated and may not appeal to you if you’re looking for something a little faster. However, if you’re a hardcore RPG fan and have always loved old-school style games, Fragoria is a world you can spend hours in. It deeply embodies the saying “old but gold”. Try it out and enjoy.
