You have received a letter from a family member naming you as heir, and gives you a compass as well as orders to go to an island that you own and convert it to a very productive farm. This is where your adventure begins in Taonga Island Farm, an amazing virtual farm simulator that you can play on Facebook!
Central to the game’s mechanics is the need to collect and produce your resources. This is where the “farm” concept fits into the gameplay. You’ll have to plow farm plots, and plant seeds. At the start of your experience, you have a specific number of plots given to you, and all of them have been planted with various crops including Pineapples, Sweet Potatoes, Wheat and many others. You can purchase additional farm plots as well from the Shop.
To get you on your way, you’re given a couple of Quests that you would have to complete as a form of tutorial. After around three of these tutorials, you’re then left to yourself to figure out what you have to do next to get the farm going. Quests continue to be given to you just so you know what you have to do; you can locate them at the left-side portion of the screen.
Quests give you rewards in the form of in-game cash and experience points, so you will certainly want to complete any of those coming to you.
The game itself, however, is very self-explanatory. If you click on a Building, for instance, you’ll get a menu that shows you what you need to do. If the structure has not been built yet, you’ll see what you need to gather from your farm in order to get the construction going. Hover the game’s cursor over a crop, or a tree, and you can get an icon that shows you what you can gather from that object.
If you decide to collect that resource, click on the object and it will show you how much of that resource is left. Clicking once will harvest only once, so you’ll have to click multiple times to harvest multiple amounts of that resource.
Constructing buildings allow you to accomplish several actions in-game. For instance, the lumberjack will allow you to cut down trees with the assistance of your helpers. This leaves you free to do other tasks. On the other hand, the Baker produces various bread products while the Mill produces powdered products for use in the Baker’s tasks.
Another way to earn free in-game cash and experience, aside from Quests, is to process orders. Orders can be accessed through a board at the northern part of your farm.
Last but not the least, you can take care of livestock in your farm. You begin with chickens, which produces eggs after an hour’s time. Eggs can be used to produce dishes at the Baker, or sold individually as part of orders.
To sum it up, Taonga Island Farm is an entire world for you to explore. Give it a try now! You only need your Facebook account.
