Saint Seiya is arguably one of the most popular anime franchises. It was arguably a mainstay in old CRT TV screens back in the day, and older anime fans might look at it with fondness. Regardless if you’re a fan or not, you can experience the epicness of the saints in Saint Seiya Cosmo Fantasy. Developed by Bandai Namco (who else?!), it’s basically much like any other game they developed in the mobile gaming market. Here, you will collect characters from the Saint Seiya anime who will accompany you in your adventure and be part of your roster when you face your enemies. In any case, is it a game you would want to try out and play? Let’s find out what it has to offer:

The moment you launch Saint Seiya Cosmo Fantasy, you immediately encounter a problem. Like most Bandai Namco games, you’re required to download the game’s files at launch, instead of having to do so via the App Store. This is one of the major flaws of the way the developer does things. Instead of having to play immediately, you’re left to wait for several minutes. In addition, note that it would be best to download the files on a wifi connection, considering that it may be a bit too large for your mobile data. Mobile games should provide a “quick install and play “ experience, not an “install and download patches” and wait, and Saint Seiya unfortunately belongs to the latter.

With that said, the gameplay is relatively similar to most gacha style, team assembling games. You summon and earn heroes who are represented by a card-style presentation in the main menu. Whenever you dive into battle, you first need to assemble your team and decide where to position them. Though this may present tactical elements, this is nothing more than cosmetic. Once the battles start, the members of your team fight automatically, only requiring you to tap on their character cards on the bottom of the screen to activate skills. You can also set this to automatic, so all you have to do is sit back, relax, and watch your characters fight.

In terms of presentation, the game excels. It possesses Saint Seiya’s rather remastered art style and all the quirkiness of its characters, especially their outlandish names and poses. It also features the original voice acting which will certainly appeal to the franchise’s fans. The character roster is also huge, ranging from both the main cast and the enemies. Unfortunately, most of which is locked on a staggering paywall, requiring you to pay cash to get holy stones (the game’s premium currency) to get a higher chance to summon a “God Cloth” character donning golden armor.

Saint Seiya Cosmo Fantasy is a fairly decent game, with the anime’s characters and art style. Although the gameplay is too casual-friendly, just the thought of adventuring across the cosmos with Pegasus Seiya and the Saints is an inviting prospect. However, the game does suffer from bugs and glitches, as well as the initial download right after you install it. Moreover, most of the characters are hidden behind a paywall which you need to pay the toll to in order to scale. Nevertheless, give the game a shot if you’re a big fan of the anime.
